Extruding tube animation possible in Unity?
I want to create and play an animation either in Unity or from Maya to Unity that has a tube's end snaking through the scene (like a more fluid Windows 98 pipe screensaver). I know how to accomplish this in Maya through a cv curve, but I don't know how to have it work in Unity. Any ideas?
If it is an animation you can capture in $$anonymous$$aya, then you can play it back in Unity. If you want it interactive, I do not know how you could achieve this.
You could try using multiple short tubes connected by joints, but I don't think that is what you are looking for. I know there are plugins that allow some mesh deformation (or editing) within Unity, and also ones for splines (for paths, etc).
Thank you for the response!
For the animation, I've been wanting to import the tube with its animation attached, pretty much like how you import a rig with an animation, ins$$anonymous$$d of a rendered out animation. The issue is that the tube is attached to a curve and I'm using the curve's attributes for the extruding AND the tube has subdivisions added to it when it extends. I totally understand why Unity doesn't like it.
I'll definitely be looking into those plugins. A spline path seems like a good step towards what I want.

I solved my problem for the most part. What I did was that I did capture the animation in Maya. Instead of extruding the mesh, I bound some joints to a cylinder and had the joints follow the cv curve/motion path.
One thing I tried, but got mixed results, was having Unity particle system follow a spline path (Hermite Spline Controller). I got the result that I wanted except you could clearly see each individual particle. While there is a way around this, I'm sure, I didn't want to spend more time figuring that out.
