procedural terrain algorithms 2d
i have looked around on the internet for tutorials regarding procedula terrain generation, especially for organic ones. My hope is to generate a terrain with more than 2 block types,(the only ones i found deal only with cave generation where a block is either present or absent (hollow)) but i don't know where to start. Can someone link me some good resources?
I am not a procedural expert, but I want to help lay a foundation for those who can help. Firstly, are we talking just surface terrain or underground too? Second, are we talking a simple grid like terraria, or a smooth, polygon surface? I'm sorry I cant really help, but I hope you find some people who can!
