Unity Line Animation
Hey guys,
I'm trying to do line animation like this in Unity.
I'm currently using Vectrosity, which is a fantastic tool. The only thing is that it doesn't support multiple line animations on the same path. Using separate paths is not an option for me.
Thanks!
You may be able to achieve what you want with a Trail Renderer. http://docs.unity3d.com/$$anonymous$$anual/class-TrailRenderer.html
I've played around with trail renderer, but I'm thinking along the lines of having a predefined spline, and rendering a path along it based on user input. Do you think Trail renderer would still hold up in that situation?
I think so. You can set the trail to last forever and have it as the child of an object that you animate along the given spline.
Any concern about tri count? $$anonymous$$y scene would potentially have tens / hundreds of line segments. For efficiency's sake, it'd be best that one line rendering doesn't overlap another line rendering on the same spline.
I'm not sure about tri count. It really depends on the effect you're trying to achieve. This is more of a workaround imo. I'd only use it in those situations where you can't use vectrosity.
I think you'll end up writing your own line drawing/animating code or finding a way to make using separate paths an option. I've also never used Vectrosity and am assu$$anonymous$$g there's a good reason why you can't just have multiple paths on top of each other as opposed to one path with multiple anims.
