Ground fog/low lying fog for a graveyard level

I need a way to put fog in my level where it's only at the players feet. I want it to look like this. I can pay if necessary, but I would rather not. Here's a picture of what I want it to look like: http://www.effectspecialist.com/imagesSP/LSGPier68.jpg

Two words for you : Particle System. You can just set the particles to be large and not move very fast (if at all). You can also set the particle renderer to have it show up as a fog like material (smoke would probably work). If you put the particle system on a blank game object you can scale the gameobject to whatever size your terrain is and therefore have the "fog" all around the scene.

Quick way to handle this via a particle system (2020.1.15):

  1. Create game object with particle system component

  2. Set a very slow playback speed (0.03 works for me)

  3. Choose a fog color in "start color"

  4. Check "Prewarm" to true

  5. Set a max particles and, under "Emission", a rate over time (I had both of mine in the low thousands)

  6. Under "Shape", choose circle and set the radius to the area you want covered in fog.

  7. Under "Renderer," choose Horizontal Billboard and set material to Default - Particle System

  8. Play around with Min. Particle Size (I used .3)
