How to manually convert a gif into images

So I'm working on a project which requires the use of gifs, that much is non-negotiable. To compensate for this I'm gonna need to convert the gif into individual images to turn them into a spritesheet, but since I have to do this all in unity I can't use the internet, so I need to understand how gifs are saved so I can create a converter for my project.
