Question by meat5000 · Oct 13, 2015 at 12:32 PM · answersmoderation

Despondent* Users. What do we do about them? (Unresponsive, not necessarily depressed)

Despondent users : Those who dont accept any answers, never say thank you, are always looking for total Turn-Key solutions.

What do we do about them?

In the future, users will be limited to having a certain number of open questions at one time. Of course this is not on the priority list, so, what do we do in the mean time?

Please suggest!

(Mods feel free to add to the question)

Sorry, I have to laugh a little - I was thinking you'd found users who had finally given up hope of ever making a video game... I think maybe the word you want is "unresponsive". Not making fun at all or intending offense - was just very unexpected and gave me a chuckle...

To answer your question... if it's a blatant "give me a script to do X" I'll generally comment that Unity Answers isn't a script writing service and reject the question. If find those already published I'll move them to the help area or close them.

For those not accepting answers... I guess there's not much to do. I'll sometimes send a comment suggesting that the person upvote/accept an answers, especially if it's a really good and thorough answer. And I have on occasion used my mod-powers to accept an answer if it has been a long time and the answer is obviously the correct solution.

Ha you are right. The feeling was a bit strong on that one.

Thing is its not just unresponsive users alone Im referring to but those who blatantly just dont give a crap :D

They feel a bit despondent with their "woe is me, your answer is not turn-key enough; my world is going to end" :)

Think Im going to leave it as it is. Its catchier and gave you a laugh.

I think a clearer and simpler Help Room would help with serial "do my work for me" users. When their Q's appear in main UA, they should quickly be sent to the Help Room. Vote them down if you get sick of seeing their icon. If someone feels like doing unpaid work in the Help Room, it's not really hurting UA.

Right now, its a pain to send Q's from main UA to the HelpRoom (your browser follows the Q there. If you were on page 3 of main UA, you have to remember that and go back. Plus, I always have to look a few extra seconds to be sure I'm not sending them into the Meta or Moderator area.)

And, maybe this is me: the rules aren't that explicit about main vs. HelpRoom. I don't feel as comfortable moving things based on "well, here's how I personally interpret these two sections of the FAQ."

We could have some guidelines for the Help Room, with points of what type of posts go in there, such as:

  • Write my script

  • General problem solving ("how would I approach this?")

  • Common question

  • Debugging

etc etc. correct me if this makes no sense.
