Question by Graphics_Dev · Mar 06, 2016 at 09:22 PM · postrepeatmoderationrejectedcomments

How should we respond to common reasons to reject/move a post?

After only a few hours of being a moderator, I have already noticed lots of repetitive problems. This is to give moderators some comments they can copy/paste when rejecting these posts. Feel free to add other common reasons you reject/move posts for ;)

Non-English post:

Please translate into English with google translate or a similar tool.

Not all code is formatted:

Please format ALL of your code. This will help you by making your code legible to those who can help you ;)

Common error messages:

Please post questions about error messages in the help room. This will increase the chance of receiving a good solution and help with the cleanliness of the site.

Excessively unclear question:

Please include more details so that someone who does not already know about your problem can help you. Assume the reader of your question knows nothing about your situation. Consider using the following details (where applicable) to improve clarity: Unity version, your game code, and/or screenshots. Be as detailed and clear as you can without being wordy.

Errors without error message:

Please include the complete error message(s) when posting a question about an error. This will make it much easier to answer your question, and in turn will get your question answered faster.

Word-for-word Duplicate question:

This is a duplicate question [link]. If this does not help, post your question in the help room.

The spam thing is already handled in various other posts.

This is a good idea but I must admit, I'm probably not going to use it. As Eric pointed out to me once, as useful as it is, it doesnt fit the format for what should be on-site.

I scowled a little but he was right :P

$$anonymous$$ost of these are out-of-date, with the creation of the HelpRoom. Now duplicates, fix-my-code ... goes into the HelpRoom. We really only reject pure-spam, completely unreadable or completely off-topic. The moderator page, listing all the reasons for Rejection, wasn't been updated since the HelpRoom was created.

For the rest, there really is no agreement. $$anonymous$$any $$anonymous$$ods format code, some translate to English, some convert $$anonymous$$eToo into comments (but shouldn't we Reject even $$anonymous$$eToo comments, and ask them to UpVote the question?)

I thought the moderator page not changing was intentional? Why would we keep all duplicate questions or fix my code questions? :O

That's kind of creating a new instance of the default room but with more useless questions, which won't really "help" anyone, isn't it?

I still reject obvious duplicates, "fixmycode, I dont want to learn it, only use it" , pure-spam, completely unreadable or completely off-topic questions. I leave many in the queue when I'm unsure.

PS: I've mentioned you in one question, because I am unsure about it, could it be you don't get mention notifications when they are not public only visible to mods?

I think SaraC's answer here answers your Q about the HelpRoom pretty well. You have to read between the lines a little, like where she writes "...the concept of debugging is new..."
