compress recorded audio in an app?

Is it possible to compress voice recorded with the microphone in unity live in an app. I know how to record and save it as a wav based on some examples on the forum but a 45 second wav is about 4mb. I want this to run on the iphone. Is there a way to compress the file size using a script and still have it play back?

Also what frequency should I be recording at for voice on an iphone? 44100?

If I remember right, unity will automatically compress audio for mobile.

Just look up "audio compression techniques". There is no built-in way of doing it
