Question by Unityaware · May 23, 2018 at 10:42 AM · renderingprint

I need to render a massive still image for print

I need to render a poster size still image from my game window for a poster print, which is at least A2 size in high quality (about 4000 x 6000 px). How do I do that please?

You can use a render texture of the desired size (it can actually be even larger!), assign it to your camera, and then in a script use Texture2D.EncodeToPNG() to save it. Check out the scripting reference page for an example how.

ScreenCapture.CaptureScreenshot()

https://docs.unity3d.com/ScriptReference/ScreenCapture.CaptureScreenshot.html

"Captures a screenshot at path filename as a PNG file.

If the file exists already, it will be overwritten.

On mobile platforms the filename is appended to the persistent data path. See Application.persistentDataPath for more information.

When superSize parameter is larger than 1, a larger resolution screenshot will be produced. For example, passing 4 will make the screenshot be 4x4 larger than it normally would. This is useful to produce screenshots for printing."

There is a plugin on the asset store that lets you take screenshots in game for free. I can't remember the name of it offhand.

Thanks, it's got to be much higher resolution than a screen shot, at least four times the size in order to be able to output it as a poster in print quality.

This is the one I was on about: https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/tools/instant-screenshot-24122

I don't know if it can do the resolution your on about but I used it for doing some of the good quality screenshots for my game on google play and it worked very well. Best to give it a try and see if you can do 4000x6000 pixels.
