Skinned Mesh / Cloth

I'm sorry I'm asking this. I really, really am. I know that somewhere there's got to be dozens of tutorials on this, and I can't find a single one. I'm trying to dress a human character. Model is in T - Pose, shirt is a separate model, also in T - Pose. As I'm still trying to learn Unity and Blender on the fly I decided to try and work exclusively in Unity, since learning how to rig in Blender was giving me fits. (This is not a request for aid in Blender, btw) So after messing around trying to add bones to a shirt in Blender, in order for the arms to move (after parenting them to the character) I realized that there is a Gameobject: Cloth ability in Unity, so I tried using it, only to have what appeared to be a big, useless square. (only big and useless because of my lack of skill) So naturally the first thing I did was to start doing research... at which point I learned that rather than using that (which uses hella system resources) I should be using something called "Skinned Mesh Cloth." "Great," I thought, no issues, I'll just use that. So doing a little more research I found that to use it I need to have something attached to my model called a "Skinned Mesh Renderer," and now things are getting dicey. Each bit of web info (and I really haven't found alot) seems to indicate that Unity will automatically add this to models it deems to have "skin," but I assure you, that is not happening on the models I've made with Makehuman, or at all. So I suppose my question is two fold: Does anybody know of tutorials / docs out there that I'm just plain missing? And / or does anyone know how to coax Unity into placing a Skinned Mesh Renderer onto an object, so that hopefully I can start learning how to use the Skinned Mesh Cloth? Finally, something that might make this whole thing moot: is this a feature only available on Unity Pro, and that's why I can't see how to do it on my version. (since I'm using Unity Free.) Thanks, and God bless. Sorry for the incredibly newb question.
