Why is Unity Answers even worse than before?

Unity Answers was ok before. Now it's utterly terrible.

Example 1:

Terrible Layout

Horrible layout. No dividers. Visually a complete mess. It's now a nightmare trying to see the difference between questions, answers and comments. awful, horrible, terrible layout

Example 2:

Broken Layout

Totally broken. This particular question is actually unreadable. completely broken layout

The rest of the Unity website is great, but Unity Answers has always been bad and is now even worse. I can't use UA any more. Take a hint from Stack Exchange - they have just about the best dynamic website design I've ever seen; it's ridiculously well-designed.

The code flowing over the right side panels should be fixed now, let me know if you find anything else wonky!

@SaraCecilia Great, the code doesn't overflow any more! :D Now, is the code not being inside its code boxes a problem with the site, or a problem with the OP's use of code tags? Given the text is red I'm going to suggest it's a website issue, but I'm also not sure if code is automatically red or if the OP has made it red.

EDIT: Wait, it must be a site problem because the red text is in the "code" font. Also, that's something else to consider - is the "code" font fixed-width? Because code fonts should always be fixed-width.

The only way we can improve UA is to try new things and changing the site. There are currently some bugs on the site that need to be prioritised being fixed before we can start looking at design-changes. Thanks for bringing these to my attention, as we are trying to gather all the feedback we can get in order to make the changes we need.

Oh. That was such a professional and diplomatic answer that I feel really bad for being so hard on you guys. I guess I just thought that the new design was obviously worse than before and it annoyed me. $$anonymous$$aybe you can't see the forest for the trees? Or maybe you guys are simply seeing what will look like in future and overlooking the problems you already know will be rectified... that's what I tend to do a lot when making games so it's totally reasonable.

Geez, why do you have to be so nice? :P

Personally, I think that the right-side information is too big ( The "New User? Watch this tutorial" and " was awarded the necromancer badge") It is way too eye catching. Thanks for listening to what we say!

I thought they were eye-catching, too, but people seem to miss to read the FAQ and User Guide anyway :/ Perhaps the large titles don't catch people's attention in the right way.

What about having the site set up to where when someone first registers they are automatically redirected to the FAQ, and every single time they login after that until they have 100 $$anonymous$$P or something then they get redirected to the FAQ also. ...and maybe a link to the FAQ right up there to the left of the search bar in bold letters ins$$anonymous$$d of off to the right side of the page looking like "part of a list of crap that I personally would most likely not be interested in because I generally find random crap on that side of the screen for advertisements and such when I'm on other websites" ?? ... Oh, and have a User Guide link somewhere extremely noticeable on the FAQ page as well.

The content container sizes should be about 85% - to - 15% screen-width for main page content (85%) and right-side info stuff (15%) in my opinion also, not roughly 60/40 (which is what it looks like on my screen, idk about anyone elses).

@Lo0Nuhti$$anonymous$$ Ah, no! Redirecting when you log in has got to be THE most annoying thing ever conceived! When I log in to a website, I want to be taken back to the exact page I clicked "Log In" from. The second most annoying thing is when you log in and it simply takes you to the home page of the site.

Also, I agree about the 85/15 split you suggest. The primary content should take up the vast majority of the screen.

@Clonkex : Lol, yeah, I know it'd be annoying, but it'd at least get people to look at that page even if only for a second... What about a redirect to FAQ upon registering only, then? Just the very first time someone logs in? ... and/or maybe a popup re$$anonymous$$der to read the faq and user guide once every 5 logins until they have 50$$anonymous$$P or something?

Definitely when you first register (should be very big GO READ THE FAQ BEFORE POSTING banners when you first register, and little pop-up re$$anonymous$$ders maybe every 5 logins as you say ("Don't forget to check the FAQ before posting if you haven't already!" for example).

I agree with @Clonkex regarding the broken layout. As done previously the code display box in comments should have a scroll bar, instead cutting the lines. But besides that and the overly large right side, I love it!

p.s. seeing who's following you would also be a cool feature.

IMHO, the major reason for the site switch was to add technical capabilities, and the visual redesign just came with it. I don't care much for the new look either.

Number one addition is the Help Room area, which can hopefully be used to unclog UA. That was, again IMHO, the major complaint over the years -- that duplicate novice debugging Qs were blasting everything else to page 6.

New users don't seem to know about it yet, and the controls aren't completely working. But, we can now "remove" published debugging Qs, by sending them over to the Help Room.

UA's now iteration, although it currently has its drawbacks, is infinitely better than before from one point of view:

The site breaking bugs that made peoples answers disappear are no longer there.

Its new so it will take some work to make it excellent.

Consider this :

How bad must Unity Answers 1.0 have been???
