how should I make sprites

well this isent exactly a unity question but i need help on the system of making sprites im trying to make a character with animation and some details, and i don't have a computer drawing pad so do I hand draw the sprite, and then trace it on my photo editing software which is gimp, but would i have to hand draw the whole spreadsheet like can someone just give a way to make legit sprites with animations

You're right it isn't a Unity question and also probably more one of choice than any hard and fast answers. What I would say is go on goolge and type free sprite maker. I found several.
