How do I get the Inspector/component context menus to have sub menus

I can't add sub menus to the inspector context menu when right clicking on components.

If I use

[MenuItem("CONTEXT/Component/Sub Menu/Item")]

The 'Sub Menu' option appears and has an arrow on it indicating there are more items inside it but when you mouse over or click it nothing happens.

I've just run into the same thing. Perhaps it's not supported, but I can't find anything about it other than this question. @Antony Blackett, did you ever find an answer?
