Rigidybody.AddExplosionForce()

I have a character that I have an AnimatorController on it. I am trying to trigger an explosion that will explode the character up and forward. With the animator disabled everything is fine, however with it enabled...nothing happens.

What am I missing here? Does it simply not work like this?
