Question by invulse · Feb 21, 2012 at 07:15 PM · particlesparticle systemorient

How to orient particles to direction they are moving? (Shuriken)

I am working with the new Shuriken particle system and I like a lot of the advanced features it has, but one thing I am having trouble doing is orienting particles in the direction they are moving. For example I would like to have a fountain that shoots up particles of water droplets that have a larger front and small tail end. These particles should always have the larger front end pointed in the direction they are moving. Is this possible?

I know this question is old, but for those who are still looking for a solution, what you can do is:

Go to your particle Renderer module

Change the Render Mode option to Billboard

Change the Render Alignment option to Local

Now you can rotate your particles using the transform of the object.

PS.: I tested this on Unity 2018.1alt text

I've had this problem too. You can get around it by setting the Render Mode in Renderer to Stretched Billboard and then putting your Length Scale to 1.

You'll probably need to re-import your texture rotated 90 degrees though.

Sorry for the late reply, I just stumbled upon this. Hope this helps someone !

@barbeaulex I did as you said

You can get around it by setting the Render $$anonymous$$ode in Renderer to Stretched Billboard and then putting your Length Scale to 1.

But all of a sudden the particle effects disappeared changing it back to billboard made it appear again... I tried different rotations as you said but its still not appearing can you please tell exactly or what to rotate? $$anonymous$$y problem is that I am using the engine particle effects from the official Unity3d Space shooter tutorial and it always orients to the camera position and it does not turn along with the player, That is my problem... and Changing the Simulation Space from the local to global just made things worse ... it is not turning as always but at the same time it is also leaving residue particles behind it.

Your speed is probably set to 0. You need to have some Speed for the stretched billboards to appear.
