Question by Freznosis · Nov 21, 2014 at 12:08 PM · objectaxisstopsnapping

"Turn off" snapping of gameobjects inside editor?

This is VERY frustrating and very confusing also, an object I have in my scene keeps 'snapping' without me even holding ctrl or v or any other hotkey. I know the object is snapping because if I change the snap settings higher or lower it obeys those rules. I never turned anything or nor do I have an addon such as progrids or anything of that matter that snaps an object to an axis. On top of that it seems the object only moves freely on one axis, and snaps on another. This is happening a lot of game objects in my scenes but not all.

Here is a .gif to explain better what is happening

So i ask, is there any way to prevent/stop this from happening?

I have the same problem too.

For me it happen in animation edition (recording on the time line) when editing objects positions.

And it is only for some objects, not all, like you ...

By the way it seems to a be recent bug, let say posterior to november 2014. Personally I never noticed such thing before last december, and it's been more than a year since i started to work on my stuff.

I found out what the problem was.

If you x scale is signed, say -1. Then the x position gets grid locked on a scale of 1.0f, which is 100pixels.

I found out after not getting my answer on unity3d and looking for one of my models which was not grid locked. After adjusting the model I then flipped her on the x scale. I then decided to make another adjustment just to find out she was grid locked. I flipped her back on the positive x scale, and she was no longer grid locked.

I have the same problem but i don't understand your solution. You have rotated the model along X axis?

I know this is old post but I found the correct solution. There is a Snap to Grid Icon on Editor. Which is specific to object. Just disable that and you are good to go.! The right most icon in image. alt text @Chrisasan

Same thing here, still in Unity 5.0.1. It happens at very odd times when objects are aligned to round numbers (sometimes just by chance). Manually changing their location in Inspector does not help at that point.

As FlyingMollusk_Team wrote, re-parenting is the only solution I have found. (Perhaps because they began at 0 on some axis in parent coordinates?)

I just googled this since it was happening to me, and it was because I had parented a bunch of objects underneath something. When I unparented them, the snapping stopped. (Not sure if this answers your question but that's what worked for me!)
