Question by Onepeop1e · Apr 13, 2018 at 09:57 AM · proxy

Unity Editor doesn't work with proxy

I have tried to set proxy for whole windows and the environment variables (HTTP_PROXY and HTTPS_PROXY), everything works except Unity Editor (2017 & 2018). The assets store showing offline and the editor will stuck at loading page sometimes. Is there any way to force Unity Editor to go online through proxy?

Unity editor and asset store Internet access is completely broken behind anything more than a basic proxy. Has been for years and probably will be for years more. Wish they'd understand this is a real issue and bring back the direct download option and proper proxy support in the editor.

If you know your proxy information you can try setting the environment variable HTTP_proxy to "proxy.server.url:port" ie "theproxy.mycompany.com:8080" and it MAY work if your proxy is completely transparent (which is fewer and fewer enterprise proxies these days)

@Onepeop1e This is a round about way to get it working. Not ideal, but it worked for me. First create a batch file on your desktop. Name it something like "launchUnity.bat". Place the following commands in it:

cd C:\Program Files\Unity\Editor set http_proxy=http://whatever.yourproxyis.com:portnumber set https_proxy=http://whatever.yourproxyis.com:portnumber set UNITY_NOPROXY=127.0.0.1 unity.exe

Save the file. Now use it to launch unity editor. Adjust paths, proxy etc, to match your system specifics.

Initially I created ENV variables (I'm on WIn 64) and they did not work. I modified the ENV variables to this format (used before with npm and obtained from infrastructure here)

http://domain%5Cusername:password@servername:port/

Obviously substitute https for your https environment variable.

I hope this helps.

Well, I dont know if you still want to know but I fix it by allowing Unity in the windows firewall. If you dont know how to do it you can follow the method 1 in this guide :)
