Question by ensomniac · Mar 10, 2016 at 05:19 PM · editorrandomjitterplaybackscramble

Random jitter and distortions on objects in editor only - fullscreen playback is smooth

We're encountering some very strange visual bugs in the latest editor - 5.3.3p2 (OpenGL 4.1 on OSX). We saw it as well in the latest final release and installed the latest patch to try and correct the issue, but it was not successful.

On playback in the Unity editor, our game displays very strange jittery artifacts that are, we believe, unrelated to coding and shader issues. Geometry and textures look scrambled on random frames during playback.

When we try to pause or step through frame by frame, the artifacts and jitter are nonexistent, suggesting that this is not a timestep issue.

When we maximize the game view in the Unity editor, playback is smooth and free of jitters. When we build the game on a device, it plays as expected.

The issue seems to be isolated to windowed playback in the editor.

Has anyone experienced this or knows how to correct it? My assumption is that it has to be some sort of GL conflict.

Note: The artifacting seems to be centered around 3D characters with animators attached.

I'm having a similar problem with UI elements; lot's of glitches, flickers, random artefacts in the Game view. 5.3 added a new OpenGL Core (GL3/4) back-end for $$anonymous$$ac OS X editor, and I'm guessing it's still buggy. Have been contemplating going back to 5.1 which seems to be more stable.

I'm having this problem in my builds for mobile. I have no idea what it is.

"When we maximize the game view in the Unity editor, playback is smooth and free of jitters. When we build the game on a device, it plays as expected. "

So what you are saying is... its not really an issue? :)

$$anonymous$$y experience is the reverse of his. I see the jitters and artifacts only on devices, not in the editor.

Anything that hinders our ability to interactively test our game and iterate quickly is a problem.
