Solutions for isometric collision

Hi, I'm making an isometric RPG with some platforming elements, and I would like to know about some viable solutions for collision. I need the sprite to be able to percieve height from an isomeric z as y collision map, for things like jumping and falling. I would have the tile be made up of 2 different colors, a light color for the floor, and a dark color for the walls. How would I know if the character is at the same height as the floor to stop the fall? Or could I just have a 3d collision mesh with the characters on it?

I'm no expert, but I think you're making this harder on yourself than it has to be. Couldn't you just make it plain 2D collision and just change the camera position and settings to get the isometric look?
