Question by cosminjames555 · Dec 22, 2019 at 05:34 PM · editorprojectpackagemanagerproxy

Failed to start the Unity Package Manager local server process.

When I try opening or creating a project, through both Unity Hub and normal Unity, this error pops up:

Failed to start the Unity Package Manager local server process. Make sure the process [C:/Program Files/Unity/Editor/Data/Resources/PackageManager/Server/UnityPackageManager.exe] is not blocked by your anti-virus configuration.

I don't know what I should do, as there are only a few threads on the internet about this issue, and NONE has an actual answer. I reported this as a bug, but I got no response. How do I fix this error?

In the end, I found the problem: Unity wasn't allowed through the firewall. I went to Windows Firewall with Advanced Security from the Control Panel and there I made sure both Unity and UnityPackageManager are checked for both inbound and outbound rules (this solved it!). I also went to "Allow a program through Windows Firewall" and checked all the boxes in front of Unity and UnityPackageManager.

Don't forget to also check the boxes for Package Manager.

TLDR: Reinstall unity and verify that the platform icons (see below) show up.

Hello, I experienced the same error. I thought that this was related to some form of network related issue, which was not the case. I had to reinstall the respective version of Unity and now it works, because apparently my installation was broken. Before reinstalling, the icons I highlighted below didn't show up. Now they do and it works. Not sure if this is related at all, I thought I'd share anyway.

Really, no answers?

I'm now running into the same problem on my Mac with Unity 2019.3.0f6 and can't find any solutions.

I have this problem too. Maybe after more time you found answer to this question?

@JayJennings @isakovsanya56 ·

This is how I get around this problem

  1. Install the Unity 2017.4.40of1 (LTS)

  2. Open it and create new project

  3. Once it opens Close it and open the unity hub, the project should be there.

  4. Change Unity Version to the version you need, in my case I want the latest release 2019.3.14of1

  5. Follow the steps to convert and that's that.

hope it works for at least some of you guys!
