Where is your audio listener? The position of your camera doesn't make a difference.

As ben said, two things here, Doppler/Pan settings, Audio Listener location and Audio Source location are your three stooges. From our side its difficult to help you much further without greater detail.

  1. Check your Console for messages that tell you have more than one listener, if its there locate the stray listener and remove it

  2. On your Audio Source with this sound, check the Pan and doppler settings as well as you mention the max distance, Doppler and pan should be at 1.

  3. Check if you listener is attached to your $$anonymous$$ain camera or not. if its not , find out where the listener is really located and moive it to your main camera

  4. Check if the sound your hearing is co$$anonymous$$g form the right audio source, another audio source might be the culprit

Is the AudioSource attached to the same object as the camera? This would produce the same sound no matter where the camera was, since the AudioSource would follow it.
