Custom character rigging
Hello,
I've been thinking about buying this 3D model from TurboSquid ( http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/maya-workman-rigged/672475 ), and I'm wondering if it's possible to use it in Unity, as well as rig it there. I need him to have the walk, run and other animations that the Unity's integrated 3rd person character has.
If I do buy it, how hard would it be to make him functional in Unity? On the store page, it says it's a rigged model.
Thank you in advance for the replies.

If you are willing to spend more money, make a Mixamo account. You can then import the model and put on custom animations. Otherwise, you could import it into Blender or some other modeling programs and animate there. If you do that, you can then import it into Unity with the animations. Just remember, the file format of the model is critical, some programs may not let you animate it.
It comes in .ma, .3ds, .max, .fbx formats, so I guess one of those could be animated. Is $$anonymous$$ixamo any good to use? I'm not familiar with rigging at all.
I use $$anonymous$$ixamo a lot and they have good quality animations. They also have auto-rigging, just in case your model doesn't come already rigged. The only bad things are that the animations can be pretty expensive (but auto-rigging is free) and when you import a model, it doesn't animate it with the textures. I think it accepts .fbx and .obj formats for auto-rigging, but you should check before downloading the model. So I like it overall, and I think you should try it.
