How do I change an object's texture in response to collisions?
I'm writing a game set on a royal navy ship circa 1770. In one mini-game, the player's character must flog a fellow crew member. Whip marks and blood on the victim's back would really help sell the effect. How do I do this?
Look up each part. Read about how collisions work. If you can print "X hit me" for a collision, you can insert "change texture of X" later. But why collisions? Won't they just press a button, the whip animates, and 1/2 second later there's an ouchy?
Then look up how to change textures. People have asked Qs about bullets marks in walls, which seems similar. But, maybe have the guy say "owww" and make little pain wiggles ins$$anonymous$$d? That would get the point across without being gross. Unless this is for people who really, really, really liked Last Temptation of Christ?
