What are bare essentials for iOS development?

Hi,

I'm all interested in iOS development aspect of Unity. I know I need a mac and an Apple Developer account but I want to know what exactly I need in order to develop and publish a simple iOS game, i.e. licenses and everything.

I'm currently indie and plan to use free version of Unity but when I browse the site, it's confusing, somewhere it mentions "Unity for iOS", is it different from regular Unity? On bottom of this page it says that you need a $400 license to release a game but I saw that it's free on the main page.

I really appreciate if someone would clarify all these and if I should know anything else before making a decision.

If you just visit the shop page you'll see that you can choose only between Unity (indy / free) and Unity pro. iOS / Android are addons which are not free. There are two different addons for both platforms. The pro addons require Unity pro. The "normal" addon can be used with any Unity version.

So if you want to publish for iOS you have 3 options:

  • Unity Free + iOS basic $400

  • Unity Pro + iOS basic $1900 // this one doesn't make much sense :D

  • Unity Pro + iOS pro $3000

Mac + ADC account + Unity iOS license. There's nowhere on the Unity site that says the iOS license is free. There is only one Unity app, but most of the various publishing targets are paid licenses.
