Game Objects are not visible or selectable through Scene Tab

Here is the best I can explain about the problem:

Game objects are selectable only through Hierarchy tab. Objects that are shapes (i.e. sphere, cube) have a blue outline but no shader. Other Game Objects (lights, camera, GUI text) are simply not visible at all, whether selected and focused on or not. Objects are also visible in the Game tab but CAN NOT BE SELECTED IN THE SCENE TAB!!!!

Here is a screengrab of the issue. Scene View non-selectable

Some things Ive already tried so you dont need to waste your breath:

  • F keyed. Yes, Im not a complete noob and I press F when my object is selected in hierarchy.
  • Window>Layout>Revert to factory settings. No help
  • Tried switching to all other layouts. Nope
  • Re-installed Unity. Twice.
  • Pored over every similar question posted on this forum. No answers.

I am new to Unity and haven't messed with preferences or anything and I can't seem to find out how to solve this issue. Please help!

Try updating your video drivers... I've never seen this, and the only dif. between your scene and my default is the "sun" and the little picture icon is selected on $$anonymous$$e... But even that, it doesn't change... $$anonymous$$aybe someone else can help more... But it could be the video drivers. Hope you figure it out =).

After much clicking, cursing, and more clicking, I have found the solution! It was in the "Layers" dropdown menu! My "Default" layer was turned off!

I knew it had to be something ridiculously simple but you would think that re-installing Unity would clear everything back to zero. So my next question would be: where do I find the file/script that is retaining all this info? I mean, I thought I had wiped all my old project files when I uninstalled Unity but re-installing it kept my old preferences... Anywho, thanks for the help Justin

I'm having the same problem, but all my layers are selected. I cannot select items in-scene unless I click and drag on them. GuiText is invisible in-scene, although I see the movement widget. It's always visible in the game window.
