Unity stuck on grayed out play screen

The unity editor was working perfectly fine until it simply wasn't. I went into my code to make a simple change and then when I came back to test it out, Unity got stuck on this screen:

I wen't back to undo all the changes I had made and it continued happening. I then made a completely new script with no edits and it continued happening. I have no idea what is going on does anyone have any ideas?
