Somehow your copied text (which is HTML in ASCII encoding) is interpreted as unicode. I've inserted your "text" into a unicode file (using wordpad of WinXP) and saved as unicode text file. Each character in windows "wide character" unicode format is represented by 2 bytes, however the text i got when viewing the file with an hex-editor was this html file. There might be some strange setting on your system, webbrowser or MonoDevelop.

What system are you actually using? Windows, Mac or Linux? Also what browser do you use?
