Question by hislittlecuzin · May 20, 2017 at 09:12 AM · c#buttononclick

How to modify a button component with C#

(Match 2 cards game) I have a script that auto-generates and places buttons in the scene. When the button pre-fabs are placed they have no functionality as they are created (instantiated) after the game starts.

I have the "CardFlip" script on the Canvas. When you click the button I need the button to tell the Canvas this card was selected. In addition it needs to refer to itself as the transform. This is what OnClick should look like in the Inspector: alt text

However the card instead is Generated like this: alt text

 using System.Collections;
 using System.Collections.Generic;
 using UnityEngine;
 using UnityEngine.UI;
 public class CardLocationBehavior : MonoBehaviour {

     public GameObject card; // The card assigned to this location

     RandomSorting rSCS; // Script that assigns random locations to cards
     GameObject canvasGO; // Canvas GameObject

     Button button; // The button on the card assigned to this location

     void Awake() {
         canvasGO = GameObject.FindGameObjectWithTag("CanvasTag");
         rSCS = canvasGO.gameObject.GetComponent<RandomSorting>();
         print(rSCS);
         print(canvasGO);
     }

     public void PlaceCards() {
         print(card);
         card = Instantiate(card, transform.position, Quaternion.identity); //Creates card at this location
         card.transform.SetParent(rSCS.parentToBe.transform); //Sets canvas as parent so you can see/interact
         button = card.GetComponent<Button>(); // Gets button from card
         //button.onClick.gameObject = canvasGO; // attempt to reference the Canvas as the object containing the script this button should interact with.
     }

 }

This is the script that is on the GameObject determining where cards should be when they should be placed. After it places the card it is also supposed to set the card up so it is ready for play.

How do I script it so the button is assigned a GameObject, Script, Function, and transform? I couldn't find anything on this in documentation API, nor Google.
