Always keep backups. Take this as a learning opportunity.

If you are on a $$anonymous$$ac, go to Time machine and get your last copy.

If you are on a $$anonymous$$ac and NOT running Time $$anonymous$$achine, set it up now

Unless you had the project folder inside Unity installation folder, it shouldn't have been removed when updating. Are you sure you have looked in the right places?

And you are working in the right Project Folder?

I have once made several backup and inadvertently spend some time working from an older project version, wondering where 'this and that' has gone :P

The things we learn :D I feel I might be getting your hopes up. It's gone!
