How do I make an autoupdater / patcher script
I've been trying for a long time to make a free autoupdater/ patcher script for my game. I do not have unity pro and I don't have any experience. If anyone can answer my question it would be most helpful. Thank you.
This is not a specific technical question and has actually been asked many times before. Personally, I've used Python to make myself an autoupdater. Generally it's easiest to make a different program update the game, but if you want to spend the time, you can make it self-updating. There is also a patching extension someone made you can buy from the asset store.
Curiously how would you use Python to make an autoupdater, or can you link me to any tutorials to help me get started. Thank You for your reply.
I simply made a little tkinter application, did some version analysis using a file I created, then used requests to download the zip file of my game from my webserver, which I then extracted using zipfile and ran using an os function. The whole program was then compiled to a single executable, for each platform, using PyInstaller and it was ready to ship.
I marked all the libraries with italics. Once you know how to use them, making this sort of updater is trivial.
