Realistic Helicopter AI Movements using physics
Hi guys,
i want to add helicopter ai to my game but cant think of ways to go about this.
the helicopter will have a rigidbody and i want to simulate the physics using forces.
this is what i have in mind, maybe two raycasters on forward and the other down.
down raycast will tell me altitude based on terrain (but i need this raycast to always be perpendicular to terrain regardless of helicopters rotation... how do i do this , joints?)
second raycast will have to detect objects ahead and judge if it can fly over.
im i on the right track? has anyone done anything similar? i want the helicopter to fly or manouver with relativetorque for rotation and relativeforce for movement.
if anyone can shed some light i will highly appreciate it. thx
If you want perfectly realistic helicopter movement, the best method would be a 3d navigation mesh. Otherwise you will not be able to implement proper pathfinding if that is what you want...
Helicopter physics are very very complicated. It's not something you can simply implement. You can fake it easily though
im going to try and fake it. ive failed to find any valuable resources, ill use atleast three raycasts and distance calculations. ill post my script here when im done and a demo
