How can we get the current video time for scrubbing?

Hi, I was looking for a way to get the current time in video playback. I need a video playing on a Canvas to work like an embedded video player. I need to link the slider to the video somehow.

After two hours of searching the web, I conclude there's no direct way to access the current time in video (and set the current time in video) to scrub through it, apart from using an expensive add-on?

Any help on this topic would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance. :)
