What can i do to optimize vertices count?

My Problem: I use a script to generate a plane witz x x-segments and y z-segment. my problem is: i need very much z-segments because i want to visualize an audio track. but the problem is now i have so much segments that the vertices count is easily reached so what can i do to optimize the vertex count?

a.t.m i have 11335 z-segments. i build my road with changing the y-values of every z-segment based to a certain script. i'd need very less segments if there'd be a way to say to unity: first point is 0,0,0 second point is 0,1,0 now build a curve between them. but it has to be calculated that why i have for every pair of points 100 values to smooth the road.

i hope you can understand my problem and help me. if you need the actual source code i can give it to you but its very... lets call it "unprofessional"
