Custom AudioSpeakerMode

Dear U3D Gurus, is there a way to create a custom AudioSpeakerMode with a specific number of speaker set in certain spatial positions which are not the usual stereo, 5.1, 7.1 etc.? Where should I find some more details about how the sound stream created by U3D is then encoded and "pumped out" of the computer where U3D is running?
