unity 2018.2, resolving packages stuck when opening project

Question

Hello, I have been stuck on trying to fix this for a while now but when I try to load unity it gets stuck on resolving packages? I have had a recent issue where unity was not loading at all, however I fixed this by downloading unity on a different computer and sending the program file and roaming file to this PC, which could be the problem? I have tried to uninstall and reinstall and searched for answers but nothing has worked so far. Thanks

I found it: Go into the Project Settings, then "Toolchain Management" and disable "Install toolchain package automatically. It's because it tries to download a package needed for exporting to Linux but there's somehow a error with it.

How can you go to Project Settings when Unity gets stuck resolving packages as soon as the project is opened?

Well you need to wait I guess, it can take a few seconds or a $$anonymous$$ute for it to stop installing and then you have a few seconds time to go there before it tries to install it again. I believe another way of fixing this is by reinstalling the Unity version but disabling all Linux modules.

For me It was stuck on "Resolving Packages" without pause, so I never had the chance.

I've seen reports of two different problems: one where it gets stuck completely, and one where it keeps retrying over and over again.

I believed I experienced the first one, but I could see that there was a little bit of network activity, so I left it on for a few hours and when I came back it had finished. So in my case it was likely just a very slow connection to one of package servers.
