Question by Naoce · Mar 16, 2018 at 10:51 PM · spritebugsize

Does unity have a limit of build size ?

Hi,

I'm developping a 2D game for more than a year now and it is working just fine in the editor mode. But, when i build the .exe for windows x86, some sprites do not display correctly.

I tried many things as : Updating Unity version, Rebuild library, etc... you know basic stuff.

In my researches i found out that if i removed one or two prefabs objects the exe built works just fine, but adding back those prefabs or recreating them makes the bug coming back.

The thing is the sprites that do not display correctly have nothing to do with those prefabs.

Here is an exemple of exe vs editor rendering for a sprite not displaying correctly : https://i.imgur.com/YLulLQx.png

Does unity have a limit of build size ? My game weighs currently 5 Go when built.

Have you tried compressing textures? To see if it helps?

You mean lowering quality ? or max size ?

"Textures usually take up the most space in the build. The first solution to this is to use compressed Texture formats. See documentation on platform-specific Texture compression for more information."

"If that doesn’t reduce the file size enough, try to reduce the physical size (in pixels) of the Texture images. To do this without modifying the actual source content, select the Texture in the Project view, and in the Inspector window reduce the $$anonymous$$ax Size. To see how this looks in-game, zoom in on a GameObject that uses the Texture, then adjust the $$anonymous$$ax Size until it starts looking worse in the Scene view. Changing the maximum Texture size does not affect your Texture Asset, just its resolution in the game."

Okay but let's suppose that i manage to reduce the buiild size doing that, it probably won't fix the bug. Do you have an idea about what is happening ?
