FPS increase when selecting an Camera due to VSync
Hey there!
I just noticed a strange behaviour which increases FPS in my game by 40 FPS when selecting a camera - active or not, image effects or not, and nothing else, only when my Character moves.
So basically when two scripts of mine perform rather expensive operations. How? A glance on the Profiler clears me up a bit: It's VSync using half the cpu cost when I move...
Why does this increase in FPS by lesser cost of VSync when I move only appears when I have the Camera in the Inspector selected?
Let me get this straight. Your FPS is increasing and you are complaining? :)
I think he just wants to know whats going on , so basically when your character moves while you have selected a camera?
VSync limits your FPS so your $$anonymous$$onitor/TV is refreshing at the same time each frame is drawn(well that's the idea of it anyway). any frames drawn in between that refresh rate is wasted, since it never makes it to your Display Usually to around 60FPS.
Just tested myself and find I get that too, i go from 80FPS, to about 130FPS
$$anonymous$$aybe Unity over compensates for the movement , and assumes you are about to move the camera via Scene View, thus created that drop in V Sync and that increase of FPS? ( i have a feeling unity dislikes moving objects that way)
well since you can only select things in the editor is doesn't really effect your game. And from what I've seen, the editor is what ios affecting the game FPS ( and a few things do). tried have the profile open at the same time as the game window, dropped it to about 100FPS. so yeah its the editor's fault
Best advice is to add in a proper FPS script and test this on device. You may find Unity editor is causing it.
Sorry for the late response, I remember me updating the page for over an hour without seeing anything...
Anyway, thanks for the advice, and yes, a "proper" FPS script still shows very constant 60.35 FPS:/ Does that mean the stats are wrong? :O
As a comparision, left part shows me moving, right part not, both selecting the cam. But your right, it won't show ingame either way:)
