how to animate ice on a 3D globe?
i have a 3D globe in my project (later you should be able to turn an zoom like google earth). i also have concrete data on the development of the amount of ice on the earth (1980 - 2000). example: first click on 1980: you see a large amount of ice. then click on 2000 - the ice becomes less in a nice animation. how do i do that ice movement?

So many different ways to do this and really it depends on how you want to do it.
How do you want it to behave? As in do you want to be able to drag a slider over a time scale and see it dynamically change year on year?
How about this if it's 3D then create some prefab iceburgs (for want of a better word), then create a load of empty game objects to store your iceburgs.
Have list that stores the year, a bool to say if this iceburg is available in that year, the transform of the empty gameObject to store the iceburg and which prefab you want to use.
As you move from year to year rebuild the lits of gameObjects to display either completely or delete those no longer available/instantiate those now available.
It's just one of many many ways of doing this but may give you an idea of where to start looking.
