Combining Horizontal and Stretched render modes
I'm trying to create a simple particle effect of ripples moving over the surface of water. In order to keep them aligned with the surface I need to use the Horizontal Billboard render mode. But I also want to rotate the waves to face in the direction they're travelling, similar to the effect you can get with the Stretched Billboard mode. Is there a simple workaround to achieve the best of both worlds here?
No idea, but just come across this problem myself, so bumping this back up to the top of UA in the hope that somebody might have a bright idea...
So after some experiments I'm pretty sure it's not possible using the built-in particle renderer module. $$anonymous$$y only suggestion is to use a geometry shader and/or custom vertex streams to create horizontal stretched billboards on the GPU.
Sounds quite a lot of effort for a relatively straightforward requirement.... I'll give it a go when I get chance (unless some clever fellow like @bunny83 comes up with a better solution first... ;) )
