Question by m4a44 · Nov 18, 2014 at 11:22 PM · menuwindowspcform

PC build Menu items?

Is there a way to access and add menu items to a PC build (through a native window)?

I'm already using System.Windows.Forms to use the FolderBrowserDialog, but I want to know if I can go farther through Unity...

Example:

alt text

It would be easier to have access to this than try to make my own menu system...

I don't think you can edit this part of unity. The only things you can do with the editor is what EditorWindow allows you to do. http://docs.unity3d.com/ScriptReference/EditorWindow.html

I'm not asking for changes to the editor. I'm asking if it's possible to have a PC build window have such a menu...

@m4a44, you could "technically" do it through your own implementation and plugin, constraining the UI in your build to win32 calls and menu items, you could also wrap the executable, but then you have to create a container that will not crash because you don't know all the calls, creating a layer for interaction between the win32 menu system and unity could also prove difficult. Remember your build is based off a game engine, have a platform's menu api isn't something game engine really care about.

@Landern Yeah, I know having the platform menu api isn't the most ideal, but I was hoping to have access to proven menu systems for tools management.

I managed to get System.Windows.Forms to do some of the stuff I wanted, but I couldn't find anything about getting access to the menus...
