How big is too big? Terrain Question.
Is width 80000 by length 80000 too much?
The terrain itself is not very complicated as its pretty much just barren moon surface but it will need to deal with some large numbers of AI and other players. Fairly well detailed models, but not uber AAA stuff or anything.
Also the vehicles and such will have realistic physics, fairly complicated.
At first I tried procedural planet rendering but I'm not good enough yet and I have a bad feeling about the performance issues with it too.
I also tried the terrain stitching with height maps but its pissing me the hell of and taking so long.
So can I just make a one large fat big ass terrain? 80000 x 80000 or 100000 x 100000, around there?
Too much? Can I use LOD within a single terrain? Or does it have to be that separated setneighbour crap?
Please I hope you can answer quickly. I wasted so much time suffering with this already. Thanks.

You didn't specify your target platform, but I'd be very surprised if 80k x 80k wasn't too big in any case.

It really depends on your target platform -- how many draw calls you can allocate to terrain rendering, how much VRA$$anonymous$$ you're willing to budget, etc., and your other resolution settings for the terrain. Ok but in your opinion: Is say 8k to 10k, single terrain too much for a 3rd person, PC/console game? A multiplayer/adventure game? There will be multiple levels with terrains of that size. The terrains themselves are not too detailed, mostly barren moon/mars terrain but will have high amounts of AI and stuff on occasion.

Should be doable. Definitely look through that tutorial to get an idea of how much CPU, VRA$$anonymous$$, etc., you'll need to budget. But it sounds like the dynamic entities (AI, objects) will be a bigger factor. You can LOD them, too -- e.g., full AI processing for nearby objects, simpler AI for mid-range objects, and skip processing for far objects.
