Which is the best navigation system?
I'm making an rts and I expect upwards of 800 agents consistently. Anyone know of a fast and decently accurate navigation system on the asset store that can handle that?
Aaron Granberg's Astar Pathfinding project is fairly popular. The basic version is already quite powerful and is free, while the pro version ist $100.
Can it definitely support 800 units with standard rts local avoidance and everthing?
Local avoidance is only supported in the Pro version AFAI$$anonymous$$. Check Youtube, I think there are some stress test videos. It should support a fairly large number, but I have no idea if it will get as high as 800 with LA.
For high numbers of units you might be better off abondoning agent based behaviour. A flow feild type model may serve you better.

I got Aron Granberg's Pathfinding Project Pro and used the RVO. It works IMMACULATELY! I'm really excited to continue the development with this huge gameplay element solved.
