If you mean disable sounds from your own app, yes you can just stop the sounds you are playing or set master volume to 0. if you mean sounds in the real world. its hard to know what is the sounds your user is making and what is the sounds in the background... they are all just sound waves. If you are making some kind of audio recording software... tell the user how to make a quiet room in which to record.... in a closet with lots of clothes hanging to deaden the sound works well. Or possibly offer user some hi or low pass audio filters, you can write those...
Hi JonPQ. Thank you for your answer. The player sound should be stronger than backgrounds.I brought it up for the user. So, what do you think I have to do?
keep all your player sounds, seperate from all other sound and music in the game. you know how most games have options for music volume and sound-fx volumes.... well it soulds like you need your own volumes controlled by your own code, for playerVolume. and EverythingElseVolume. Then whenever you play a sound... use the correct control to multiply the volume of that sound when you play it. Now you have control to just have player sound up, and everything else quiet or 0. You may need to keep handles/references to music, so you can fade it down while it is playing. I'm still not sure if this is what you need.
