Licensing - Non-Profit, in-University, grant-funded project

Hello,

My colleagues and I are interested in using Unity for an upcoming game-design workshop. However, it is unclear if we need to purchase seat licenses in order to publish (but not profit from) the works created in said workshops. A few notes about what makes our situation so unique:

  • We are a grant-funded, new-media lab based in a University, run by a tenure professor. So, technically we are SUPPORTED by an educational facility, but this project is not directly backed by the University. Therefore I do not believe the Educational license fits. Please correct me if wrong.

  • Our lab juggles many projects, RAs and artists and therefore, thanks to several grants, our "revenue" is technically over the limit. This monetary support is not legally classified as "revenue". It is at our disposal under many, many restrictions. Therefore, I am unsure if this bars us from using the Personal license.

  • Specific to this project: our goal is to teach aboriginal youth how to make their own video games and thus become creators, not just consumers, of digital media. Ideally, the final games will be posted online to share, but they will not be for-profit. Of course, we do not at all mind the Unity splash screen.

If someone could confirm what license we are eligible to use, it would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
