Figured out the answer by myself.
Why does pressing joystick button 0 also trigger joystick button 1?
So I have joystick button 0 mapped to the Fire axis and joystick button 1 mapped to the jump axis. On the ps4 controller this would make x the jump button and square the fire button. The issue is when i press the x button my character both jumps and fires. What would cause this? I do not have any alt buttons or negative buttons assigned in either axis.

Sorry for the answering of my own question but it turns out the problem was with the Input Mapper I was using. Stopping it from emulating the 360 controller fixed my problem.
