What's the best way to make a long scrolling list of items?
I'm making a JRPG and have a big inventory list, it could be up to 1,000 items.
I have the items displayed using a Grid Layout Group, and nested in a Scroll Rect with a Mask. That all works fine. However, there are 1,000 items that get created and I'm not sure this is the most efficient solution.
In other programs you might have a scrolling list with item renderers. You only need as many item renderers as are visible in the scroll area. As you scroll it creates the illusion of there being lots of items by redrawing the item renderers to show the next row.
I was wondering if there's any pre-built way to do this in Unity? Or is there another more efficient solution than the one I implemented?
