Changing the beginning splash image?
I've heard that this isn't legal to do, so I'm wondering if an exception could be made. The splash on every unity free game doesn't really fit with the colour scheme of my game, so I made this instead:
I need an official to tell me if I can legally change the default splash to this.

I'm no official, but the short answer is you can't. Changing the splash image is a pro only feature. Changing Unity's logo is pretty much a no go.
Exactly, that's why I was wondering if an official could make an exception.
You are welcome to ask. But I doubt anything will come of it. While a significant part of Unity Technologies strategy revolves around the free version, the more significant part of the revenue comes from pro users. The model breaks down if they start allowing exceptions for free users to access pro features
If you are insistent on pursuing this I'd suggest contacting Unity Technologies directly. This site is run mostly by volunteers, interaction by Unity Technologies employees is infrequent.
If you really need the color scheme to match you should simply buy pro.
