Can you create 3-D modeled characters with unity 4.5.2?
I am going to be making a game that will require extensive 3-D modeling. I am not going to be using any of the downloadable models from the store, and I don't want to get any more software than I need to. How hard (or easy) would it be to make 3-D models with the free version of Unity? Replies would be greatly appreciated.

Unity has no 3d modelling tools built in. You can place simple solids like cubes, sphere and capsules. If you need extensive 3d modelling, then look at commercially available modelling tools.

Impossible. Unity is a game engine. To make 3d models, you need a 3d modelling tool - such as Blender, 3ds max, or Maya.
Thanks guys, I was just wondering if I needed to get software or not. Thank you for the replies they were very much appreciated!

Yeah just following on from the post from Graham, blender is a good place to start if you want something more complex then simple objects. There are plenty of tutorials for it specifically aimed at unity.
I've gotten Blender, but I have zilch knowledge about how to use it. If you guys could tell me of a tutorial on youtube/ instructables/ something like that, I would much appreciate it.
You can check here;

also there is have a lots of videos on youtube about what model you want to do.
Thank you soooo much. you have no idea how much this is going to help. Thanks A Lot!
