Best way to create a simple cartoon terrain

Hello

I'm pretty new to Unity.

I'd like to create a cartoon styled environment in Unity, similar to what is seen here http://www.tutorius.net/2010/03/game-content-with-cinema-4d-and-unity/

What im not sure about is if it's easier to create the terrain and model it in software like C4d then import it.

Or if I can do it all in Unity? When I try and create a landscape directly in Unity it always has to much detail.

Does anyone have simple steps to achieve a cartoon look and feel to a game environment?

Thanks Dan

Change the opacity (strength) in the terrain editing, so that it makes it flatter, also, make sure the height map is VERY low, then smooth it out, then for the actual texture on it, find one online that looks cartoony, apply that to it, then for the trees, you could do either in unity or in C4D, just make a cylindar, add a sphere on top, then put the sphere in the leaves, and the cylindar in the trunk, then apply a cartoon texture, then put it in the correct folder after making that a prefab... Then make it like that...

It really shouldn't be to hard....

If this doesn't help could you explain what you mean by "to much detail" because I've done this before and it worked fine...

All the best! Justin

Thanks Justin, I will try what you suggest. It looks like importing the terrain from a 3d package would be the solution if I plan to publish to iphone.

I will try and create the trees s described in Unity.

You would have to create it in a 3D modeling package and import into Unity. Besides the terrain generator (which cant be used on mobile devices anyway), Unity only has primitives (cubes, planes, spheres, and such) for prototyping.

Thanks, that's an interesting point that the terrian generator can't be used on mobile devices.
