How can I prevent ParticleSystem from playing when selected in editor?
Hi guys
I'm currently doing a lot of work with the Shuriken ParticleSystem to make it useful for presenting point cloud data.
I've been able to abstract a lot of the jankyness away, but I'm left with one problem:
When clicking on the GameObject with the ParticleSystem in the editor the simulation is automatically played, clearing all of the existing particles.
My component:
How can I prevent this automatic playing of ParticleSystems?
Thanks,
Ves

Welp, my approach has been to write my own particle system! Hydra Particles

My workaround is to control the particle system with Timeline. Add a PlayableDirector, add a Timeline to it, add a ControlTrack to the Timeline and Drag the particle system gameobject into it. Then, lock the Timeline window. Select the particle system and it will auto-play. Now drag the time cursor in the timeline window. It will control the particle system so that it is frozen at that frame. You can now edit it. Since it always uses the same seed, the behaviour is quite predictable. You can drag the cursor to your liking which makes it much easier to edit the particle system to your liking! This is of course quite cumbersome. I would love to somehow deactivate Shuriken's select-auto-play! Or even better, a timeline-like window for editing Shuriken.
